Obituary

“USJohn J. "Clem" Doherty, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the North End Rehabilitation and Medical Center. He was 91 years of age.

Clem was born in Boston on November 12, 1927, a son of the late Patrick Doherty and Margaret (Canney) Doherty. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. He later attended Niagara University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Clem entered into the United States Army on March 4, 1954 and served his country with pride and honor during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on March 10, 1956 with the rank of Private First Class. Clem worked as an educator throughout his life, teaching at various Boston public schools until his retirement. He was a very generous and active man until his later years, enjoying the winters and summers up in North Conway.

Clem is the devoted son of the late Patrick Doherty and Margaret (Canney) Doherty. He is the beloved brother of Theresa Doherty of Charlestown, and the late Margaret "Peggy" Cloudman, Frances Galli, Patrick Doherty, Mary Doherty, Michael Doherty, Sarah "Sally" Gorrie, Helen Falk, and Jeanne Cleary. He is the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Clem's visiting hour on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. CHARLESTOWN, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Frances De Sales Church at 11 A.M. His burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Clem's name to the St. Frances De Sales Parish Building Fund, 303 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, MA 02129.
