Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Imelda, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on July 2, 2019.
She was in her 93rd year.

Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Imelda lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and caregiver to those in need.

Imelda was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them, making many sacrifices for them over the years. She especially loved her role as a grandmother, doting on her grandchildren and following their growth and development. She also loved all of her nieces and nephews, always commenting on their successes and achievements. Many now call her their favorite aunt. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She loved to cook and collect recipes, and welcomed everyone into her home with at a seat at her table.

Until her health condition made it impossible, Imelda was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows in Sharon, working with many church efforts including the Women’s club. She dedicated her time to helping those less fortunate by volunteering as a caregiver at area nursing homes and serving in a local prison ministry.

She was also very involved in an ecumenical group, and travelled throughout Israel, Russia, and Spain. She also visited Italy and Ireland in pursuit of further understanding her ancestry. Her extensive travel had a profound impact on her faith.
Much of her time spent with family was imbued with teachable moments about their ancestry, including many stories from her childhood.

Bunny was an animal lover, especially cats. She rescued ferels and had outdoor shelters built for them in her backyard. She kept her porch open for them in the winter and a nursed kittens born there to full health. One that was born under her kitchen table became her favorite cat, Benny.

While her passing is tragic, Imelda left behind an enduring legacy of love, empathy, and compassion. She always had an open door and an open heart to everyone in her life. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
