Obituary

Catherine E. (McCabe) Dunn, age 96, of Canton peacefully entered the Gates of Heaven on July 2, 2019 with her family by her side. Kay was the beloved wife of 55 years of the late Daniel W. Dunn and the loving mother of Joan Harrison (John Bimshas) of Orleans, Maureen Gendrolius (Robert) of Plymouth, Barbara Dunn (Robert Taggart) of Virginia, Christopher Dunn of Bourne, Gregory Dunn (late Karen Dunn) of Virginia, and the late Daniel W. Dunn Jr. (Zoila Salas). She was a brilliant ray of sunshine to her grandchildren Lisa, Brendan (Amy), Matthew (Madelyn), Casey, Colin, Mike (Bernadette), Katya and Sergei Dunn, Caroline Clark (Paul), Suzanne Gendrolius (Jay Standing), Cate Norton (Bill Fowler), to her step grandchildren Lenny Salas, Glen Harrison, Bill Marino, Theron Taggart, Anthony Palmieri, and Michele Thompson and to great grandchildren Tyler Ingraham, Alex and Ethan Dunn, Charlotte and Trixie Clark, Kaylee Norton, Billy Standing, Ashley Harrison, and Freya and Mila Taggart.
Kay is also survived by her sister Margaret (Peggy) O’Brien of Ashland, and sisters-in-law Sheila McCabe of Canton and Roberta Dunn of Norwood and many loving nieces and nephews. She was born and raised in South Boston, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Margaret (Quinlan) McCabe, and was the sister of the late Mary Manning, Thomas Jr, Edward and Robert McCabe.
Kay is a retired Administrative Assistant at Blue Hills Regionals Vocational Technical School in Canton. Kay loved people and was happiest when she could make someone smile. For the last two and a half years she resided at Cornerstone at Canton, an assisted living facility, where she made friends with residents and staff alike. She was active in many groups including the Canton Catholic Womens’ Club, St. Gerard’s Altar Guild, the Canton Garden Club, Milton Hoosic Golf Club, the Ponkapoag Civic Association, and the Discussion Group (which was the answer from a group of women to their husbands’ discussion group, the Edgewise Club, where you couldn’t get a word in Edgewise). She loved to read, especially biographies and works of history both fictional and real.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gerard Majella Church, 1860 Washington Street, Canton,on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton. Visiting hours for friends and family are on Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021.
