Obituary

Marianne Kelley Foley, 85, formerly of Appletown Road, Greenville, passed away on Friday June 28th. She was the beloved wife of the late George B. Foley who died on September 3, 1990.

She was born in Arlington, MA, daughter of the late, Edward J. and Julia A. (Carberry) Kelley. She had lived in Harmony before moving to Greenville. She was a graduate of St Patrick’s High School where she was captain of the girls’ basketball team. Marianne went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Boston University, Sargent College.

Before retiring, she was head of the physical therapy departments at Fatima Hospital and the Providence Veteran’s Hospital. She was instrumental in gaining state licensing for physical therapists in the state of Rhode Island.

She was a long time member and avid golfer at Glocester Country Club and was a PGA and LPGA fan. She was an above average bowler and women’s league statistician at the former Hearthside Bowling Lanes in Smithfield. She helped lead the “Think Rink” campaign that led to the construction of the Smithfield Ice Rink.

She was the beloved mother of Jeremiah and his wife Joy of Centerville, OH, Julieann Foley of Greenville, and George Daniel and his wife Joanne of Newton, MA. She was the loving grandmother of Anastasia Maria, Colin Anthony, John Patrick and Kathryn Miah. She also leaves a brother Edward J. Kelley Jr. and his wife Eva of Williamsburg, VA and a niece Micaela A. Kelley of London, England and a nephew, Edward J. Kelley III of Falls Church, VA.

Marianne was known as a loving, kind, smart, and fiercely funny person. She was truly a special, one-of-a-kind lady that could bring a smile to anyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

The Foley family would like to thank several wonderful, caring people who bestowed kindness and friendship to our mother in her later years. In particular Andrew and Lisa Laidler, Bruce Beaumier, Thomas Winfield, and Shannon Reid – your unselfish assistance to our mother was greatly appreciated. Special thanks also to the staff of Cortland Place for their kind care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Whitinsville, MA. Visitation Friday 4-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
