Fairhaven – Dorothy Marie (Desjardins) Sylvia, age 81, of Fairhaven, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 28, 2019 at her home. She was born in New Bedford, MA and was the daughter of the late William and Jeanette (Theberge) Desjardins.
Dorothy had waitressed for many years at Annie’s Lunch. During her “retirement” years, she worked part-time for Dorothy Cox’s Chocolates and later, for Emma Jean's Bakery & Café, Candy House, and Ice Cream Shoppe. Dorothy was above all, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family and will be missed more than words can ever say.
She is survived by daughter, Tammy Wunschel and her husband, Dana of Fairhaven, daughter, Lisa LaPlante and her husband, Rick of New Bedford and son, Kevin Sylvia and his wife, Brenda of Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Chad Wunschel and his wife Janine, Garrett Wunschel, Scott Medeiros and Ryan Sylvia; great-grandson, Wyatt Wunschel; as well as a sister, Janet Medeiros and her husband, Alvin. Dorothy was also the mother of the late Carol Sylvia and the sister of the late William Desjardins and George Desjardins.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in memory of Dorothy.
Dorothy’s memorial service will take place Saturday July 13th in the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. with a religious service to take place during that time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
