Mr. Joseph J. Messina "Joey", a resident of Derry, New Hampshire and beloved husband of Karen (Hmielowski) Messina, passed away at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry on Thursday morning, June 20, 2019. He was 71 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on November 13, 1947, the son of Sebastian J. Messina and the late Regina M. (Lacasse). Joey worked in the family owned business, Columbia ASC Inc. in Lawrence, MA since he was a young boy. He retired in 2013. A US Navy Veteran, Joey served his country during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal.
During his retirement, Mr. Messina enjoyed building airplane models, visiting the race track at Saratoga and watching western movies. He will be dearly missed.
Besides his wife, Karen, Joey is survived by his children; Joel Messina, Jason Beall and his wife Jennifer and several grandchildren, siblings; Alfred Messina, Brenda Staub and her husband Jakob, Marilyn "Cookie" Cochran and her husband Will, Judy Elliott and her husband Jack, and Sal Messina and his wife Jessica. He is also survived by his Uncle Joe and Aunt Marilyn, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Joey was the loving father of the late Andrea Cher Abdallah.
Visitation will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, from 5 to 7 PM. Interment will be privately held at a later date. For additional information, please visit, www.burkemagliozzi.com.
