Obituary

Donald J. Raymond 85 of Salem, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 with his family by his side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Nancy S. (Newell ) Raymond with whom he had shared 52 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Lillian M. (LaPlante) Raymond. Don was graduate of Salem High Class of ’52, and later served with the Navy Sea Bees. Following his tour of duty Don returned to Salem and continued working as an auto mechanic for his father at Pequot Filling Station, on Congress St., Salem, a business founded by his father. In 1958 he married the love of his life and devoted his time to Nancy and their family and the running of the garage. Don retired in 2001 but always managed to show up at work to keep up with his many friends.
Don was a religious man and long time member of Ste. Anne Parish in Salem. Don’s only hobby was showing up at the Century House in Peabody and Bertini’s in Salem, where he and his late wife would catch up with their many friends.
He is survived by his five children; Garry P. and Linda J. Raymond of Salem, Pamela M. Scott and husband Wayne of Worcester, Suzanne L. Raymond and Spero Kontarisis of Salem, Mark D. and wife Linda M. Raymond of Salem and Scott R. Raymond of Salem, his brother Paul T. Raymond of Salem and nine grandchildren; Amy L. Diaz, Shayne R. Scott, John R. Keyes, Jr. Ashley A. Scott, Laura A. Carr, Jillian M. Nelson, Cody J. Raymond, Rebecca M. Raymond and Joshua M. Raymond. He also leaves eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Marie Scaletti.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:30 AM to be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Ste Anne Church 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:30 AM. His burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours, at the funeral home, will be on Thursday, June 20th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
