Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Irene J. (Lafleur) Remy, 90, a longtime resident of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 17, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on October 24, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Arthur J. and Emma (Hebert) Lafleur. She was raised in Westport, Massachusetts and moved to Springfield in 1949. She was employed at the former Pine Manor Nursing Home in Springfield. During her leisure time, Irene loved to read and enjoyed long walks around her neighborhood. Most of all, she was a wonderful woman who adored her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert H. Remy who was Called Home on October 4, 2002. They were married on October 22, 1949 at Sainte Anne Church in Fall River and were blessed with over 52 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her loving daughter, Pauline (Remy) McLaughlin who was Called Home on May 20, 1982; her dear brother, Robert Lafleur and his wife, Lois; and her two dear sisters, Pauline Trudell and her husband, Robert, and Thelma Niva. She leaves her six loving children and their spouses, Roger Remy of Palmer, Diane Naventi (Peter) of Lee, Janice Morris of Wilbraham, Carol Rivet (Michael) of East Longmeadow, Michael Remy (Kimberly) of Wilbraham and Mark S. Remy of Westfield; her ten cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Sean (Nicole), Heather (Craig), Derek, Andre, Matthew (Aimee), Elise (Wayne), Andrew (Mary), Sarah, Michael and Catherine; her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Erin, Greyson, Taylor, Molly, Myla, Nicholas and Zoey; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Remy and Lafleur families. Her family would like to thank the staff and caregivers from Summit Eldercare in Springfield for their compassion and care provided to Irene which allowed her to remain in her home. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
