Brooke Stuart Evans, 86, of Provincetown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2019 in Provincetown.
Born in Springfield to the late Alda (Stuart) and Clarence Evans on January 2, 1933, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from American International College. He married Mary Anne (Kolowrat) Evans on December 28, 1958 in Monson, MA. Brooke was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Colorado and Regensberg, Germany.
Brooke was considered one of the top General Managers in a 24-unit international chain of hotels prior to being hired as Vice President and General Manager of Dunfey’s Resort in Hyannis. In 1977, Brooke purchased the Provincetown Inn in Provincetown, and in 1987, The Outer Reach Resort in North Truro. He used his prodigious professional experience to turn both hotels into profitable entities.
Brooke possessed a passionate zest for life. An avid boxing fan, Brooke brought the sport to Provincetown by inviting, soon-to-be, World Middleweight Champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler, to train at the Provincetown Inn for title matches and subsequent defenses. He ran the Boston and Newport marathons and could be seen daily on the tennis courts improving his serve. He also had a flair for cooking and reconnected with the piano at the young age of 80. Most of all, he enjoyed working with his family, swimming with his grandchildren, and relaxing on his boat in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Brooke is survived by his spouse: Mary Anne Evans of South Yarmouth, MA, his children: James Evans, Evan Evans and wife Lois, Jeff Evans, Anna Christina (Christy) Milliken and husband David, and Henry Evans: his sister, Alda Ledoux and husband Bruce, and his grandchildren: Derek Evans, Alex Evans & wife Melissa, Jen Evans and soon to be husband Jessie, Cassandra Evans, Anna Milliken, and Luke Milliken. He was predeceased by his brother, Craig Evans.
