Obituary

Mr. Philip J. Porcella Jr., age 84, died Monday January 9, 2006 in Cambridge after a lengthy illness. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Lillian (Silva) & Philip J. Porcella. Philip was a Medford resident, formerly of Belmont.

Philip was a Medford High School graduate, class of 1939. He enjoyed many sports in school and especially excelled in baseball and was awarded a scholarship to Boston College. He spent a year at BC before joining the United Staes Navy. He spent the next several years in the Navy during World War II.

Philip was the owner of the Fulton Packing Co. They were located in South Hampton St., Boston. Fulton Packing Co was the largest wholeale meat packing company of New England during it´s time. He retired about 15 years ago, in his late 60´s.

Philip was a former member of the Charles River Country Club of Newton. He enjoyed golfing and fishing in his retirement.

Philip was the husband of Helen (Mulligan) Porcella of Belmont. Devoted father of Philip Porcella of Cambridge, Karen O´Reilly and Maureen Clough both of Belmont. Also survived by 7 loving grandchildren and 4 loving great grandchildren. Brother of Dorothy Bezis of Medford and the late James Porcella.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Philip´s name to the Children´s Hospital Trust, One Autumn St., # 731, Boston, MA 02115-5301.
