New Bedford – Tony C. Teixeira, age 77, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria “Lourdes” (Escobar) Teixeira and was also the husband of the late Rosemary (Couto) Teixeira, who passed away July 24, 1993.
Tony was born in San Rafael, CA to the late Antonio and Virginia (Pimentel) Teixeira. During his early years, he had worked as a plant manager for Cameo Curtains, Arberdeen Manufacturing, as well as, a manager for Friendly’s Ice Cream Shop in Dartmouth. Tony, until very recently, worked for many years at Perry Funeral, where he was not just an “employee” but a treasured and beloved friend to all.
Tony loved spending time with his wife and family, as well as, spending time in his garden. He was very devoted to his family, as well as to his church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He had also received the Marian Medal Award.
He is survived by his wife, Lourdes; daughters, Sharon Thomas and her husband David, Stephanie Macomber and her husband Wayne, Susan Henriques and her husband Firmino Miguel and Laura Caneira and her husband Nicholas; stepson, Andrew Silvia and his girlfriend Kara Champagne; grandchildren, David A. Thomas II, Vincent Nicholas Caneira and Izabella Rose Caneira; brother, Joseph Teixeira and sister, Gina Furtado; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Theresa Sousa and Alfred Teixeira.
Tony’s visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, June 12th from 4:00– 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
