New Bedford– Gloria C. (Da Ponte) Matos, age 96, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Agostinho R. Matos.
Gloria was born in Minho, Portugal to the late Jose Maria Da Ponte and Julia Rodrigues Vilar. She moved to this area in February 1974 where she loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Irene Conde and her husband Lawrence, Maria Sousa and her husband Agostinho, Alexandrina Pereira, Maria Amaral and her husband Jose and Manuel Matos; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Vilar and Nazere Cardosa; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Gloria Da Rosa.
Gloria’s visiting hours will be held Friday evening, June 7th from 5:00– 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday morning in the funeral home, beginning at 8:00 A.M. with a service to take place at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
