Leon W. Hawkinson, 90, of Berlin, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the Coos County Nursing Home. He was born in Berlin, the son of the late Sverre and Annie (Pederson) Hawkinson and graduated Berlin High School the Class of 1946. Leon worked for 18 years for the State of New Hampshire Department of Employment Security as a Tax Unit Supervisor before retiring in 1989. He was a life member of the Concord-Epsom Lodge of Elks and was past Exalted Ruler of the Lodge. He liked to hunt, fish, golf, travel, ski and was a former Nansen Ski Jumper.
Members of the family include his nieces, Joan Riff of Berlin, Freda Hawkinson of Manchester, and Gail MacKenzie of Dublin, OH; several cousins including Jennie Brown of Gorham, Roger Pederson of Portsmouth and Alice Pederson of West Springfield, MA. He was predeceased by a brother Royden Hawkinson and sister Verlie MacKenzie.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 2pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Norway Street, Berlin. Friends and Relatives are invited to call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Tuesday from 6-8pm. Interment will be in the New City Cemetery in Berlin at a later date.
