TIVERTON – João Tavares, age 90, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Born in São Miguel, Açores, he was the beloved husband of Leonor (Diogo) Tavares and the son of the late Manuel Tavares & Mequelina (Ferreira) Tavares. Prior to retiring, João worked as a laborer in the Construction Industry.
João was a parishioner of Espirito Santo Church, and loved spending time with his family, especially his Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren, and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Mary Pavao (husband Antone), John M Tavares (wife Michelle), and Delores Albernaz (husband Alfredo); his sister: Odelia Marques; five grandchildren: Jason Pavao, Joshua Pavao, Cheri Levesque, Tiffany Zawerucka, and Matthew Albernaz; 4 great-grandchildren: Jack & Cole Pavao, Anakin & Gwenyth Zawerucka; nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helena, Maria, Joe and Manny.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main Street, Fall River on Monday, June 3, 2019 here at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Espirito Santo Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
