Richard William McBarnes, 97, of Anderson died peacefully on May 28, 2019 at his son's home in Frankfort, Indiana.
He was born July 6, 1921, in Pleasant Mills, the son of Smith and Leona (Minniear) McBarnes
He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart.
Richard worked maintenance at Delco Remy most of his adult life before retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Chesterfield Christian Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca (Don) Guthrie of Anderson and son, Timothy Lee (Kim) McBarnes of Frankfort; two grandchildren Mayor Christopher (Samantha) McBarnes and Craig McBarnes of Frankfort.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann (McKee) McBarnes whom he married June 27, 1947 in Anderson died in 2016; two sisters, Helen Hicks and Janet Mason.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Bronnenberg Cemetery with Pastor Ned Clark officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
