Obituary

WILBRAHAM – Nicholas Sotiropoulos, of Wilbraham passed on to the Lord on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. He was the son of the late Charles and Catherine (Alatsas) Sotiropoulos and was born in Springfield on January 24, 1922. Nick leaves behind his loving wife, Christina (Yianacopoulos) Sotiropoulos. They were married on July 10, 1949 at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield and were blessed with over 69 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his son, William Sotiropoulos of Wenatchee, WA; his son, Michael Sotiropoulos (Natalina), of Wilbraham; his granddaughter, Nuria Sotiropoulos (Nickolis); their daughter, Quinn Blais; his grandson, Canyon Sotiropoulos (Patricia); his grandson, Nicholas Sotiropoulos (Hannah); as well as many beloved family members and friends. Nick had an illustrious professional boxing career highlighted with sparring alongside World Featherweight Champion and friend, Willie Pep. Nick was a Golden Glove winner whose boxing name, Nick Stato, lit up many East Coast arenas such as Madison Square Garden and Boston Garden. Nick later worked for many years as a machinist at the American Bosch. Nick’s hobbies included traveling, deep sea fishing, sports, gardening, wood working toys for his grandchildren and furniture making. Nick was a faithful member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. Nick was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Nick will be missed and his loving memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Nick will Lie in Repose on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial will follow the Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
