Gloria J. Faria, 87, of New Bedford passed away Saturday May 18, 2019.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Francisco A. and Juliana A. (Duarte) Faria, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Gloria was formerly employed as a registered nurse until her retirement.
During the 1950s, she served for a short time in the U.S. Army before being discharged to return home to care for her ailing father.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary J. Faria of New Bedford and Agnes Pelt of Chicago, Illinois; her nieces, Julia Pelt, Lorraine Pina, and Betty Rose; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She is also survived by her close friend, Vernetta Anderson and family.
She was predeceased by her brother, Antone Faria, her sister Anna J. Texeira, and her nephews, Derrick Faria, Lindell Pelt, and Dennis Texeira.
A private funeral service was held on Friday morning at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors followed at St. John's Cemetery.
