Obituary

Anjali was born in Kolkata and studied in Patiala Medical College. She came from a line of pioneering women where her grandmother was one of the first woman doctors in India and her mother was one of the daring few at the time to work before marriage as a teacher. Anjali’s father,Bimal Kundoo, was very active in the freedom movement in Kolkata.
Anjali married Deleep Hazra in 1960 and arrived 3 years later in Montreal, Canada. It was not an easy transition being pregnant and with a one year old toddler in tow and being left stranded at the airport by the contact who was to meet them. Obstacles were overcome with persistence and hard work and those first few Indian families in Montreal set the stage for thousands more to come. Then the family moved to Boston in 1980 where Anjali attended Puja for nearly 40 years starting from that little Knights of Columbus hall in Watertown. Anjali appreciated the great efforts to carry forth the grand traditions of the Bengali Pujas. She was a great lover of the songs of Talat Mahmood, Hemanta Mukherjee, Mehdi Hassan and saw quite a few of the legendary artists in Montreal and Boston.
Anjali tenderly cared for her dear husband Deleep in his winter season of life reflecting the deep love they had for each other promising him in his last days that she’ll carry on as difficult as it will be. Though hardly conscious, He responded with a tear. Today, let’s fondly remember Anjali in the care, compassion, fortitude, and sacrifice she showed to us and continue in the love and blessings.
