Obituary

David G.I. Pothier, a lifelong resident of Reading passed away peacefully, May 20, 2019. Beloved son of Sandra J. (Orlando) and Jerry C. Pothier, of Reading. Devoted brother of Gregory Pothier and his wife Lindsay of Portland, OR, Jason Pothier and his wife Michelle of Las Vegas, NV, and Rachel Pothier of Reading. Cherished uncle and godfather of Jason R. Pothier. David is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members as well as his many dear friends from his day group Communitas Community, teammates from Special Olympics, and schoolmates from Perkins School for the Blind.

David was a multi-medalist athlete with the Special Olympics, winning 59 medals in Track and Field, Softball, Basketball and Soccer. David was an avid Boston sports fan, and always wore a jersey representing the team that was scheduled to play that day. Often, he would change outfits midday if the Red Sox and the Bruins played on the same day.

David loved music and always had a tune to hum. He had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the Perkins School for the Blind choir. His favorite band was the Backstreet Boys.
Even when battling his most intense challenges, Big D`s positive attitude and motivation never suffered. Dave would wear his John Cena "Never Give Up" t-shirt, hat and wristbands to chemotherapy appointments. He would stop every nurse and doctor at Dana Farber to show off his Special Olympic Rings tattoo.

Everyone who had the fortune to know him is much richer for the experience. He was the personification of determination. His spirit was indomitable; the joy he felt was genuine and untarnished. David was witty, funny, and had a special charm that continues to inspire everyone he has ever met.
