New Bedford – Augusto Sousa Vitorino, age 87, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Ambrosina daSilva (Soares) Vitorino. They had been married for over 62 years.
Augusto was born in Lagoa, São Miguel, Azores to the late Carlos Sousa Vitorino and Maria dos Anjos Moura and moved to this area in 1973. He had worked at Berkshire Hathaway for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Ambrosina; children, Manuel Vitorino and his wife, Rosaria of Dartmouth and Sofia Fita and her husband, John of Kitchener,Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Gerald and his wife Ana, Shannan, Derrick, Joshua and Savanah; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Ava, Sydney and Austin; siblings, Maria Varao of Toronto, Canada and Antonio Sousa of São Miguel, Azores.
Augusto’s visiting hours will be held Friday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will follow with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Augusto’s name to the American Cancer Society and The Amercian Heart Association.
