Obituary

HOLLIS – Bart James Sughrue IV, age 40, passed away on May 11, 2019. Bart, better known as Jim to his family and friends, was born in Westbrook Maine on August 23, 1978 to Susan (Klar) Sughure and Bart J. Sughrue III. After graduating from Bonny Eagle High School, he worked at Sysco Food Services for many years. He was an avid learner, especially of science. He was inquisitive, hands on, and always wanting to know how things operated. Jim picked up many skills from his dad and frequently put them to use whether he was pulling a motor, or spraying paint. He worked for Old School Services from an early age where became a skilled craftsman in multiple trades.
Jim was mechanically inclined and was always prepared to take on a challenge. From a young age, he was interested in sports, physical sports and motorsports. He liked snowmobiling in the winter and jet skiing in the summer, snowshoeing and just walking the trails. Spending time with his brothers and his father hunting and fishing brought him joy.
The past few years Jim has been open about his addiction struggles and even testified at the State House supporting legislation to help those in need. At times he became an advocate for others. He was adamant that addiction issues be brought out in the open. It would be the only way to generate the attention needed to support education and drive change. Too many good people have lost their lives in this fierce battle for sobriety.
Jim was a son, brother, uncle, a true heart, who was very loved. Jim was about truth, honesty, and integrity. Jim was committed to his family and brought positive energy, joy, and happiness to all around him.
In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by his siblings, Patrick Sughrue and his wife Jennifer of Dayton, Teresa Crandall and her husband Josiah of Limington, Garrett Sughrue and his wife Melanie of Dayton. He also leaves behind eight nieces and nephews; Carson, Colby, Grace, Ryker, Ava, Charles, Hayden and Gwyneth.
A private family service has been held. Memorial contributions can be made to Day One, an organization that Jim had personally contributed to over the years. 525 Main Street, South Portland, Maine 04106.
