Obituary

New Bedford – Alice M. (DeMoranville) Rogers, 79, of N. Dartmouth died peacefully after an illness on December 30, 2005 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Walter E. “Wally” Rogers for over 60 years.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Dartmouth, daughter of the late Gilbert M. and Besse (Tripp) DeMoranville, and was a lifelong resident of the town. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, New Bedford. She was employed for 12 years as a cafeteria worker by the Dartmouth School Department until her retirement in 1979. She was an active member of the Smith Mills Camp Meeting Association, Dartmouth for more than 60 years. She and her husband traveled for 10 years with the Midtown Twirlers Square Dance Club. They also ran the Junior Bowling League at the former Midway (later Midtown) Bowling Alley, Dartmouth for many years. She enjoyed traveling, camping, sewing, cooking but most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters: Charlotte A. Surprenant and her husband Roger and Jayne E. Eklund and her husband Bill all of N. Dartmouth; 3 sons: Jerry E. Rogers and his wife Joyce, Barry A. Rogers and Brian A. Rogers and his wife Maureen all of N. Dartmouth; 3 brothers: Howard DeMoranville of Mattapoisett, Edgar DeMoranville of Apopka, FL and Samuel DeMoranville of Spokane, WA; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday at 6:00 P.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene, New Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Smith Mills Camp Meeting Association, c/o First Church of the Nazarene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford, MA 02740.

Interment will be private.
