Obituary

Anthony P. D'Agati, longtime Andover resident and beloved husband of Shirley J. (DeLucca) D'Agati, passed away on May 7, 2019 at 87 years of age. Born in Lawrence, MA, on December 23, 1931, he was the cherished son of the late Angelo and Maria Rose (Cantarella) D'Agati of Sicily. He served his country while stationed in an army hospital in Fukuoka, Japan during the Korean War. As a physicist and mathematician, he made significant contributions in rocket propulsion, atmospheric radiation and star mapping for the Air Force and NASA while at Hanscom AFB.

In his spare time, Anthony enjoyed woodworking, cooking, reading, and opera. He was a devout Catholic. Besides his beloved wife, Shirley, he is survived by his loving children--Dr. Philip A. D'Agati of North Andover, and Deborah A. and her husband Thomas C. Helfrich of Fairfax, VT. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 11:00am. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Sunday, May 12, 2019, from 4 to 8 PM. No services will be held on Monday. Interment will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Anthony's memory to the Mendel Observatory and Physics Department at Merrimack College to honor his love of mathematics and physics.
