West Boylston—Shirley C. (Kachadoorian) Surabian, 81, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Her husband of 58 years, Albert Surabian, died in 2004. She leaves a son, Albert “Mickey” and his wife, Alyce, Surabian of Worcester; a brother, Thomas Kachadoorian, of Worcester; a sister, Beverly Kashmanian and her husband, Harry, of N. Providence, RI; 3 sisters-in-law, Maro Kachadoorian of Leicester; Alice and her husband Bill Christie, and Nora and her husband George Osganian; a brother-in-law and his wife, Oscar and Joanne Surabian of Northborough; 5 grandchildren, Ani and her husband Peter Manolakos of Chelmsford, Danielle Surabian of Worcester, Shant Arakelian of Shrewsbury, Ara Surabian, and Albert Surabian both of Worcester; a great-grandson, Niko Manolakos; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Arakelian; a brother, Jack Kachadoorian; and a sister-in-law, Millie Kachadoorian.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Aharan and Esther (Malizian) Kachadoorian and graduated from Worcester Girls Trade School. She was a cosmetic consultant for Elizabeth Arden and worked at the former R.H.Whites and Filene’s stores. She was also a founder with the family of the former Tech Market. Shirley was a member of Holy Trinity Armenian Church and a former choir member, a member of the AYF and the Thursday Seniors Group. She enjoyed her family and trips to NYC, but suffered terribly with the loss of her daughter Christine.
Funeral Services under the direction of Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. will be held Monday, Jan. 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Armenian Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 10:30 until time of service at the church. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 635 Grove St Worcester MA 01605.
