Obituary

“TeamstersLawrence D. Campbell, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Care One of Wilmington Nursing Home in Wilmington. He was 98 years of age.

Lawrence was born in Boston on September 10, 1920, a son of the late John W. Campbell and Jennie L. (McClellan) Campbell. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system. Lawrence enlisted into the United States Army on November 19, 1942 and served his country faithfully and with courage during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945 with the rank of Private. Lawrence worked as a Truck Driver and worked for Old Colony Transportation for 30 years. He was a retired 35 year member of the Teamsters Union Local # 25. Following his retirement from trucking, he enjoyed working for the former Kerrigan Florist in Charlestown as their delivery driver. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 1012 and also enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and reading. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Lawrence is the beloved husband of the late Mary A. "Sis" (Brown) Campbell. He is the devoted father of Mary Lou Kelley and her late husband retired Boston Firefighter George Kelley of Wilmington and Rose Ann Amato and her husband Vincent of Billerica and the late Joanne Campbell. He is the loving Bumpy to Mary Therese Hill and her husband Robert, George Kelley Jr. and his wife Lia, Dennis Kelley and his wife Stephanie, Paul Amato and his wife Lynne and his great-grandchildren Meredith and her husband Mark, Ashley, Daniel, Michael, Katherine, Jack, Sam, and his great-great-grandson George Harrison. He is the beloved brother of the late Daniel Campbell, John Campbell, Allen Campbell, Joseph Campbell, Edna Zlock, Christine Davidson, Pearl Getchell, Ruth Price and Jeannette Foilb. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lawrence's Funeral on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
