Ruby Jean Collier Poole, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, May 2, 2019, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2019, at the Fitzgerald Church of God, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Hal Wiley will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends, Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Poole was born August 21, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Thomas L. & Ruby Davis Collier. She lived in the community all of her life and was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She received her nurses training at the Ben Hill County Hospital and worked for Dr. Roy Johnson and Delphi as a nurse. Mrs. Poole was an accomplished seamstress that loved to sew and enjoyed needle crafts and ceramics. She had a big heart and enjoyed taking care of others. Mrs. Poole was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Poole of Fitzgerald; two sisters: Mary C. Dykes of Fitzgerald and Judy C. Dowdy of Mystic. Many nieces and nephews also survive including Hal & Jennifer Wiley of Fitzgerald and Pam & Kevin Brown of Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. Poole; two sisters: Azzie Mae C. Mitchell and Linda C. Black and four brothers: Charles Collier, Leroy Collier, Carl Collier and Donald W. Collier.
