Worcester—Marilyn H. (Powers) St. Amand, 71, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006, in the Knollwood Nursing Center after a long and brave battle with cancer.
She was born in Worcester on October 20, 1934, daughter of the late John J. and Evelyn W. (Bloom) Powers. She was a life-long resident of Worcester, and she graduated from North High School and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a degree in elementary education. She was a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for over 30 years, retiring in 1993.
She leaves her husband of 48 years, Edmond J. St. Amand, Jr.; 3 daughters, Karen J. Culkeen and her husband James of Gardner, Janet E. Hodgdon of Worcester, and Amy E. Kwasny and her husband Glen, also of Worcester; and 5 grandchildren: Timothy, Patrick, Meaghan and Kelly Culkeen of Gardner, and Sarah Hodgdon of Worcester. She was joyfully awaiting the birth of her sixth grandchild this Spring. She was a member of the Education Association of Worcester, Mass. Teachers Assoc., and National Educ. Assoc. She loved animals, reading, and traveling.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Jan. 9, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 10-11 before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
