Obituary

Brian A. McCarthy, 55, of Danvers, passed away peacefully at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, following a brief illness. He was the son of Eileen R. (Audet) McCarthy of Danvers and the late J. Robert McCarthy.
Born in Philadelphia he also lived in Virginia before moving to Salem with his parents in 1973. Brian was a graduate of Salem High School Special Education Class in 1985. Over the years he has worked for Crosby’s Market in Salem and Marblehead, volunteered at Salem Hospital and was a member of the Salem Goodwill Workshop day program. He was also a long standing participant in the Special Olympics, proudly earning many medals in various events. Brian loved spending time with his family and traveling. They traveled extensively throughout the U.S.A and Australia. He also enjoyed watching all the Boston sports teams and especially enjoyed golf, swimming and McDonald’s. Brian always had a smile that warmed the hearts of everybody he met.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Sheila M. Laffy and her husband John, his nephew Jack Laffy, his aunts, Irene Johnson and husband Richard, Eleanor Hay, Anne Lyons and husband Gordon “Skip” as well as several cousins and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 to be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10:00 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem will follow. Visiting hours, at the funeral home will be on Monday the 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
