Obituary

George G. Casella, lifelong resident of Medford, passed away Monday, April 15th. He was 79. Born and raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Guy and Melba (Brackett) Casella.

George enlisted in the United States Air Force in the winter of 1962, from Boston, serving during the Vietnam War. He was an aircraft mechanic. After his enlistment George came home to Medford and became a Medford firefighter he enjoyed many years of dedicated service up to his retirement.

George loved to travel with his wife Carol in total they explored 17 countries. They skied on the mountains in Switzerland, South America and all over Europe and America. An avid fisherman he made sure that on every vacation they visited a local fishing spot, a natural historian George loved to learn all about the country that they were visiting. He had many favorite places to visit, but he was especially fond of Machu Picchu, Peru.

George was the beloved husband of Carol (Cole) Casella of Medford. He was the devoted father of Charles T. Casella and his wife Janelle of Georgetown, Lynn Casella of Nashua NH., Christine Hollis and her husband James of Andover and Melissa Grace Casella of Medford. He was the loving Papa of Olivia Grace, Brendan Scott, Molly, Bret, Caitlyn and Lauren, and the dear brother of Marilyn Insogna and her husband Matthew of Medford, Charles Casella and his wife Elaine of Falmouth, and the late Frederick Casella and Elaine Diettrich. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.

A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday, April 25th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday, April 24 from 4 - 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in George's name to The Firefighter Charity Fund, Local 1032, Charity fund, P.O. Box 889, Medford, MA 02155. These funds will be used for scholarships for children of firefighters.
