Billy Sylvester Southard, 90, of Alexandria, died April 13, 2019 at Community Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born September 2, 1928, in Anderson, the son of Harold M. and Betty (Barkdull) Southard. He attended thru 6th grade in Moonsville, 7-8 grade at Chesterfield, and graduated from Daleville in 1946.
He worked at General Motors for 2 1/2 years; and S. E. Goss a year then was a folder operator at Warner Press from October 24, 1948 to September of 1990, retiring after 42 years service. He attended Union Chapel Community Church recently. He and his wife, Nila Southard attended Bethany Christian Church.
Billy was a member of Solar Masonic Lodge # 734 F. & A.M.; O.E. S. Past Worthy Patron in 1979 of Broadway # 491; Murat Shrine Indianapolis since 1976; Madison County Shrine Club since December 21, 1976.
He is survived by his four sons, Mike (Suella) Southard of Alexandria; Rick (Kay) Southard of Liberty Center; Dennis Southard of Alexandria and Jeff (Carol) Southard of Bluffton; nine grandchildren, Robin, Billy Blue, Mikey, Jason, Mitchell, Jennifer, Dennis Jr., Lauren and Dalton; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Marie Southard.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nila (Fadely) Southard in 2009; grandson, Jonathon Southard and daughter, Brenda.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, with Rev. Micheal D. Thompson and Rev. Kent Stookey officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from noon until the service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Jones Cemetery in Yorktown, IN.
Donations may be given to Shrine Hospital.
