Obituary

WORCESTER-Carol S. (Saurwein) Sullivan, 76, formerly of 52 Copperfield Road, died Tuesday, January 3rd in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She leaves her husband of 52 years William L. Sullivan, 2 daughters Celeste M. Sullivan of Providence and Claudia R. wife of Edward Salloom of Worcester, a sister, Martha Saurwein of Santa Fe, NM, 5 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Mrs. Sullivan was predeceased by her brother, Paul Saurwein, and 2 sisters, Jean Saurwein and Winifred Powell.

She was born in Arlington the daughter of George and Celeste (Schneider) Saurwein . Mrs. Sullivan was a graduate of Skidmore College and later earned her Masters Degree in Education from Worcester State College. She had worked as a substitute teacher for the Worcester Public Schools for many years until she retired in 1982. Mrs. Sullivan was a member of Christ the King Parish and was a devout convert to Catholicism. She and her husband published a biography entitled, “A Little While With Emily Dickinson: The Woman Who Was Nobody.” She also had some of her poetry published, and enjoyed gardening and music.

The funeral is Friday, January 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Entombment will be in St. John’s Cemetery Mausoleum. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 the morning of the funeral.
