Lillian (Livramento) Ramos, 81, of Acushnet, died Monday January 2, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joaquim F. "Jackie" Ramos.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joaquim and Clara (Rosario) Livramento, she had lived in Acushnet for 36 years. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Ramos was formerly employed as a medical secretary for Dr. J. Greer McBratney for 28 years until her retirement. She had also worked as a community organizer for ONBOARD, as a emergency room aide at St. Luke's Hospital, and as a hairdresser with her friends Dot Rose and Frances "Che-Cha" Monteiro.
She was a member of the Cape Verdean American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary, the Cape Verdean Action Committee and the Cape Verdean Retirees. She had been an organizer for the Cape Verdean contingent that attended the Smithsonian American Folklife Festival in 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacquelyn M. Ramos of Acushnet; a son, Wayne D. Ramos of New Bedford; two brothers, Edwin Livramento of New Bedford and Antonio Brito of Lisbon, Portugal; two sisters, Elizabeth Duarte of New Bedford and Irene Livramento of Philadelphia, Penn.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Mary Fortes, Arthur Livramento, Walter Livramento, and Estelle Livramento.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Friday Jnauary 6, 2006 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday Jnauary 5, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
