MELVIN SMITH

Melvin L. “Boogie” Smith, of 662 Cow Hill Road, Mystic, died Thursday morning at Mariner Healthcare at Pendleton after a brief illness.

He was born in Lamoine, ME on September 19, 1919 the son of Leander J. and Margaret (Young) Smith. He was a 1939 graduate of Ellsworth High school.

A resident of Mystic since the early 1960’s, he was employed as an electrician for IBEW Local #35, last working at Millstone prior to his retirement in 1985.

He will be known as a hard working family man who also enjoyed playing bingo.

His first wife, Madelyn (Davis) Smith predeceased him. He later married Nadeen R. (Panciera) Smith who survives.

In addition to his wife, “Boogie” is survived by his children, Davis K. Smith of Mystic; a daughter, Sharon Burdy of Mystic; his stepchildren, Todd Cunnian of Old Mystic, Tammy Panciera of Bradford, RI and James Cunnian of Mystic, a sister, Carrie tracy of Ellsworth, ME, 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert.

A Graveside Funeral service will be conducted at Elm Grove Cemetery, Rte. 27, Mystic on Monday at 2pm. Visitation is private for the family. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Old Mystic Fire Department.
