Ruth Evelyn (Brooks) Hamilton, 86, Anderson, died April 3, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital Anderson.
She was born June 4, 1932 in East Prairie, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard and Maude (Prince) Brooks. The Brooks family moved to Anderson in 1947 where she graduated from Anderson High School in 1950. She was a long time member of the Edgewood Country Club. She enjoyed knitting, cards, and socializing with friends, family and classmates. Ruth played a significant role in the planning of several class reunions.
Ruth worked in personnel at Delco Remy division of General Motors and later Bagot, Free, Shearer and Miller Law Office as a legal secretary until her retirement in 1992.
Ruth is survived by her three sons, Steven (Olga) Hamilton of Ft. Davis, Texas, Timothy Hamilton of The Woodlands, Texas, Robert (Susan) Hamilton of Carmel; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hamilton of Boynton Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Lauren and Liz; two sisters, Gwen Weaver of Ft. Wayne and Martha Swafford of Anderson; several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Hamilton, to whom she was married from January 7, 1955, until his passing on September 11, 1975; two sisters, Helen O'Bryant and Ruby Council Hagan; brother, Dalton Brooks; and her companion, Howard Dunham.
Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service West Chapel with Caroli Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Anderson.
