WALTER PALMER, JR., MD

WATERFORD- Walter M. Palmer Jr., MD, formerly of Waterford, passed New Years Day at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Dr. Palmer was born in Richmond Hill, NY on May 24, 1923 the son of Walter M. Palmer Sr. and Ethel May Akerly Palmer. A member of one of the original families settling in Stonington, he was a direct descendent of Lord Palmer of England. Recently, Dr. Palmer discharged himself from a nursing facility and sailed to England to continue his genealogy research.

After his graduation from high school, he served in the US Army during World War II from 1942-1946. He later completed his education, receiving his Medical Degree.

A physician for over 40 years before retiring, he was a member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Waterford.

He is survived by a son, Walter M. Palmer III of Farmington; a sister, Abby W. Asbekk of White Plains, NY, and his former wife, Aurelie (Gardiner) Palmer.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted at Stonington Cemetery (corner of Rte 1 & No. Main Street), Stonington on Friday at 12noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
