Obituary

Michael A. Virusso, of Medford, passed away on Sunday, March 31st. He was 90. Born and raised in Boston's North End. He was the son of the late Joseph and Etta (Luisi) Virusso.

Michael was a decorated WWII veteran who served as a medic and as a military police officer while stationed in Tokyo, Japan. He was awarded the World War II Victory medal and Army of Occupation Medal of Japan.

After returning home from overseas Michael went on to study accounting at Bentley College. Michael decided on a career in insurance and was a successful businessman for over 60 years. He worked for many prestigious firms such as Marsh-McLennan, A. Yarchin and Swift and Mahoney and Wright, before opening his own office, Gemini located in Somerville, until his retirement at age 82. A talented and skilled carpenter who could build anything from a porch, furniture and toys for children.

Michael was the beloved husband of Jeanette (Iavelo) Virusso for 69 loving years of marriage.He was the devoted father of Michael A. Virusso, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Quincy and Carl J. Virusso and his wife Carrie of Medford. He was the proud grandfather of Hailey Virusso and her husband Peter Casaso-Blouin of Portland, ME, Jared Virusso of San Diego, CA, Alexander and Emily Rose of Quincy, and Francesca and Violet Virusso of Medford, and soon to be great grandfather to the son of Hailey and Peter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday, April 5th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 10 AM . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8 pm. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Late WWII Army veteran.
