Maurice Richard Kwesi Jonas – 25 April 1926 – 19 March 2019
Maurice Richard Kwesi Jonas departed this world on the 19th of March, 2019 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was born on the 25th of April, 1926 to Richard E. and Juliana (Dadzi) Jonas in Obuasi, Ghana and attended school at St. Augustine Secondary School. He graduated from London University and fulfilled a 30-year career as a government Chartered Surveyor. Among his many accomplishments were his contributions in the construction of Akosombo dam on the Volta River from 1961 to 1965, now the third biggest dam in the world. He was also a long-serving Mason, Royal Arch, of the York Rite.
After moving to London and later to the USA in the 1980s, M.R.K. Jonas devoted his time to his family and welcomed the addition of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the Jonas family. He made his home in East Hartford, Connecticut, attended St. Rose Church, and leaves behind family and close friends in his community. He is survived by his wife, Stella (Sowah) Jonas; daughters Rachel (John), Marina, Stellina and Rita; son Maurice Jr.; grandchildren Jacqueline, Deji (Denise), Edwina (Randy), Zindzi, Hailey and Liam; and great-grandchildren Rhaelle, McKenzie, Jaxson and Isaiah. He is deeply missed but will be remembered in the hearts of all.
Farewell, Beloved Husband, Daddy, Grand-daddy, Great-Grand. We miss you deeply and will remember you fondly. May the angels guide you through the gates of Heaven.
Visitation will be held Wednesday Morning from 10 to 11:30a.m. in the chapel of the Hartford Community Funeral Home 380 Maple Avenue, Hartford. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12noon at the Church of the Good Shepard. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Hartford.
