Obituary

Dartmouth – Leo William Worden, 90, of North Dartmouth, MA passed away, Saturday, March 23, peacefully, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth where he has been a resident for the past 2.5 years. He was born May 30, 1928 in New Bedford, MA to William James Worden and Mary O’Rourke Worden. He grew up on Purchase Street in New Bedford.

Leo went to work at a young age to support the family due to his father’s failing health, forgoing his high school diploma till later in life. He honorably served in the U. S. Army at Camp Gordon, GA during the Korean War. During his lifetime, he worked as a baker at Juisti’s Baking Co. in New Bedford and attended the Culinary Institute of America where he met his wife, Joan, in New Haven, CT. He later passed the civil service test and became a Correctional Officer for the state serving at Walpole and many years at Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Bridgewater.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Joan (Korzybski) Worden in 2017. Leo is survived by three children – Stephen Worden (Laurna) of Guilford, CT, Kathleen Worden Cabral (David) of Groveland, MA, and Paul Worden of North Dartmouth, MA and two grandchildren – Kaitlin and Christopher Worden. He was predeceased by his brothers Vincent and Francis Worden.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Sunday 5 to 7 pm at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., New Bedford, MA. His funeral will be celebrated Monday morning, beginning at 8:45 am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd, North Dartmouth, MA.
