Obituary

LUDLOW ~ Lorraine P. (Turmel) Donahue, 84, of Ludlow and a former longtime resident of Chicopee Falls, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, March 10, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her home in Ludlow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Maple Street in Chicopee Falls on June 12, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Liniere and Anna (Girard) Turmel and lived in Chicopee Falls for most of her life before moving to Ludlow in 2017. She was employed as a Social Worker for the Department of Transitional Assistance in Chicopee and Springfield. She was an active communicant of the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and currently was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. During her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening and her many trips to the beach. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, David A. Donahue, Sr. who was Called Home on March 10, 2007. They were married on November 8, 1958 at Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. She leaves her five loving children, David A. Donahue Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Granby, Mark A. Donahue and his wife, Carrie, of Cape Junction, OR, Luke A. Donahue of Chicopee, Elizabeth M. A. “Beth” Spirito and her husband, Mark, of Ludlow and Mary R. Boyd and her companion, Chuck McCullough, of Somers, CT; her 11 cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Danielle and Devin Donahue, Tristan and Sebastian Donahue, Jennifer Smola-Falconer and her husband, Zachary Falconer, Zachary Smola and his wife, Stephanie, Rachel Spirito and her husband, Christopher Wozniak, and David, Jacob and Hannah Boyd; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Isaac Falconer and Sophia Smola; her two dear brothers-in-law, Oliver Boisselle and Gary Donahue, both of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her cherished grandson, Matthew Smola who was Called Home on June 25, 2003; her dear brother and sister-in-law, Lucien Turmel and his wife, Katherine; her dear sister, Yvette Boisselle; and her dear sister-in-law, Alfreda Donahue. Her family would like to thank Mary Astin for her compassionate care over the last two years and the staff at Trinity Health Care at Home and Hospice. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
