Obituary

Russell “Gus” Weiss, 70, of South Boston passed away on March 12. He was the husband of the late Ruthann (Merrill) Weiss who died in 1988.
Born and raised in Woburn, he was the son of the late John and Eleanor (Johnson) Weiss.
Russell was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1968.
Russell married Ruthann shortly before his deployment to Vietnam in 1969, where he earned a Bronze Star for his service with the Army’s 7th PSYOP Battalion. Upon leaving the service, Russell returned to Woburn where he lived until his wife’s passing in 1988. He then moved to South Boston, where he spent over twenty years in the printing industry as a die cutter. After his retirement, he loved traveling to Europe and spending time at Wollaston Beach and Castle Island.
A colorful character, Russell was known to his friends and family for his sharp wit and willingness to help those in need. He was an avid history and automotive buff.
Russell is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Andrew Weiss and wife Maura Branley of Woburn and Gregory Weiss and his wife Emily Weiss of Haverhill; and his five siblings John Weiss of Boston, Steven Weiss of Arlington, Ellen Allwood of Dunbarton NH, Amy SteCroix of Chester NH, and Joanne Curran of Derry NH. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Internment will take place at a The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne Friday April 12, at 11:30
