Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD ~ Raymond L. Cloutier, 88, a longtime resident of West Springfield and a former resident of the Chicopee Falls and the Aldenville sections of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, March 8, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. Ray was born at home on Leary Avenue in Chicopee Falls on May 26, 1930, a beloved son of the late Arthur J. and Marie Rose (Gagnon) Cloutier and had lived in Chicopee for many years. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was employed for many years at the former Monsanto Chemical Company in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and had last worked in the Parts Department at Balise Chevrolet and Central Chevrolet. He was a communicant of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield and a life member of the American Legion. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley L. (Barnes) Sheehan Cloutier, the owner of Red's Towing in West Springfield, who was Called Home on July 24, 2013. He leaves his two loving step-sons, Gary B. Sheehan and his partner, Patty, of West Springfield and Wayne J. Sheehan and his wife, Cathy, of Chicopee; his three cherished granddaughters, Tricia L. Scaglione and her husband, Brett, of Plantation, FL and Valerie Labine and Darlene Labine, both of Springfield; his cherished grandson, Robert Labine and his wife, Heather, of Westfield; his loving brother, Roland H. Cloutier of Chicopee; his three loving sisters, Noella M. Gaydos, Jeanne C. Lafleur and Rita A. Kustra, all of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and numerous friends. He will also be sadly missed by his faithful furry companions, his cats, Tyke and Gabby. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his two loving brothers, Napoleon Cloutier and Albert A. “Tux” Cloutier and his wife, Louise; his loving sister, Simone G. (Cloutier) Mathews St. James and her husband, Raymond St. James; his loving sister-in-law, Theresa Cloutier; and his loving step-daughter, Patricia Sheehan. His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:45 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
