Laconia-Carlton R. Beattie, 90, of 61 Pine Street died on Friday morning, December 30, 2005 at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth after a brief period of failing health.
Carlton was born in Laconia on March 4, 1915 the son of the late Sadie (Wells) Beattie. He was raised and schooled in Laconia, and had been a lifelong resident.
Prior to his retirement Carlton enjoyed a long working career with Western Union, Scott & Williams, and Carpenter-Patterson. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia. He was a lifetime member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks, and was an avid golfer.
Carlton was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Carey) Beattie in 1997, and his son Carlton R. “Skip” Beattie, Jr. in 1989
Carlton is survived by two daughters, Linda Morse of Midway, Utah, and Marcia Main and her husband Daniel of Portsmouth; his daughter-in-law Pamela Beattie of Gilford; four grandsons, Michael and Kevin Beattie of Gilford, and Matthew and Christian Main of Portsmouth; two sisters, Ismay Durette of Belmont, and Madelien Matson of Crystal River, FL; one brother, Edward Greenmore of Meredith. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski pastor of the church celebrated the mass. Spring burial took place Friday, May 26, 2006 in the family lot in St. Lambert Cemetery, Province Street, Laconia. Visiting hours were Tuesday, January 3, 2006 from 4-7 pm at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial Home, 139 Church Street, Laconia. Family and friends were invited to attend.
