Esther Cooney Sheridan, 93, formerly of 205 Elm St., Noank, and Wilkes-Barre, Pa., joined her husband, son and Creator on Thursday, December 29, at Pendleton in Mystic.
She was born in Nanticoke, Pa., on March 9, 1912, the daughter of the late Edward F. and Esther Reilley Cooney.
On July 24, 1936, she married James Sheridan; he died on Dec. 22, 1984. She was also predeceased by her son, Robert.
Mrs. Sheridan was last employed as a factory worker in Wilkes-Barre. After retirement Esther and James moved to the shore in South Belmar, N.J.
She was an avid reader and continued to listen to books on tape when Macular Degeneration claimed most of her sight. Thirteen years ago Mrs. Sheridan moved to Mystic River Homes to be near her youngest daughter.
Survivors include one son, James Sheridan and his wife, Analiese, of New Baden, Ill., and three daughters, Claire Bartoli and her fiancé, Douglas Miller, of Churchton, Md., Ruth Kozak and her husband, Daniel, of Keller, Texas and Esther Gowitzke and her husband, John, of Gales Ferry; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Esther will be held at Mystic River Homes Congregate at 205 Elm St., Noank, in the All Purpose Room on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2005 at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, 1 Park Street, New Haven, CT.
