Obituary

Norma Jane Ames (90) Hollis, ME


HOLLIS- In the late evening hours of February 23rd, with family members by her side, Norma Jane passed peacefully into the hands of our Lord and is now with her heavenly family.

She was born on May 11, 1928 in Louisville, Kentucky, the youngest daughter of Willet and Sally (McIntire) Horn.

Norma told of fond memories growing up in Kentucky, going to the movies, pop shops, learning to drive her sister's car with the standard transmission, and being a dance instructor for the Arthur Murray dance studio.  Norma graduated from J.M. Atherton High School for girls and studied creative writing and psychology at the University of Louisville.  She worked for several employers before working for General Electric Co. in Louisville where she met and married Gerald Ames who had transferred from a Maine branch to Louisville.  Gerald passed in 2005.

After raising her four children in Buxton, Maine she continued her career, first as a
secretary for WJAB radio, then as a secretary to a district manager of General Electric Co., and lastly a long and fulfilling career ending at the age of 70, being executive administrative assistant at Oakhurst Dairy in Portland, Maine.

Norma loved animals and enjoyed cooking, (she placed runner up at the Pillsbury Cook Off in Beverly Hills, California in the early  60's)  Feeding the birds at her home in Hollis, riding her motorcycle, trips to the ocean, and genealogy, she was a whiz on the computer.

Her most enjoyable times were times spent with family.  Her spirit, wisdom, and faith will be missed by those that knew her.

Norma is predeceased by both her parents, brother, Clifford Horn, sisters, Geneva Cox, Edna Roll, and Laverne Radgowski, also son-in-law, Charles Hobbs.  She is survived by her two daughters, Cheri Hobbs of Portland, Maine and Carla (Charles) Arnott of Easton, Maryland.  Twin sons – Alan (Karen) Ames of Waterboro, ME and Dana (Patricia) Ames of Buxton, ME. And many Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Burial and graveside services will be May 17th at 2pm, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Groveville Rd. in Buxton, Maine.
