Obituary

On February 18, 2019, Arline Noonan, a longtime Andover, MA resident passed away after a brief illness and after a life very well lived. Arline was born on February 1, 1921 in Pittsfield, MA. After a tumultuous childhood, she moved to Lawrence, MA where she met the love of her life, and her husband of nearly 69 years, Robert T Noonan, Sr., who passed away on February 11, 2009. They were a wonderful couple who, with Arline’s steady guidance, were very family oriented. Their primary gift to their children was their time spent together as a family.

Each of her children have said that if they can be even half as good at parenting as Arline and Bob, then their lives and marriages would also be a success.

Arline is survived by her 6 children, Nancy Choquette, Richard Noonan, Robert Noonan, Jr., Michael Noonan, Kathy Kendall, and Dan Noonan. Additionally, she had 23 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren who will all miss the hugs, laughter, and smiles from their “Grammy.”

Arline loved her immediate and extended family. She enjoyed spending time with family playing board games, cards, dancing, picnicking and swimming at ponds, lakes and at Salisbury Beach. This was often done with extended family and friends. She was primarily a stay at home Mom who taught her daughters and sons how to clean house, sew, and cook so they could all be better spouses and parents. She also often saved her money to make sure that prom dresses and sport coats were available for the children, even though she then needed to wear her “old” clothes.

Arline also had a later successful career outside the home. She worked at Western Electric where she soldered and assembled phone components.

Arline had a great smile, contagious laugh, sharp sense of humor, and loved life. Even at 98, the first thing she would say when her children visited was “When are we going to the casino?”. She lived vivaciously right up to the end, and will be sorely missed, however she left us all with wonderful, loving and happy memories.
Rest in Peace Mom!
