Esperanca C. "Hope" (Oliveira) Melo, 58, of New Bedford died February 21, 2019 after her battle with brain cancer.
She was the wife of Joe Melo.
Born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Azores, daughter of Maria Zelia (Melo) Oliveira of New Bedford and the late Paulo P. Oliveira, she lived in New Bedford since 1969.
Mrs. Melo was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She was employed as a dental assistant at cape Cod Dental for many years.
Mrs. Melo enjoyed knitting, gardening, watching Portuguese Soap Operas and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; 2 sons, Michael Melo of New Bedford and Shawn Melo and his wife Kelly of Dartmouth; 2 grandchildren, Jayden Melo and Sylis Melo; 8 brothers and sisters, Paul Oliveira and his wife Brenda, Antonio Oliveira, Nelson Oliveira and his wife Olga, Fatima Sylvia and her husband Steve, and Fernando Oliveira and his wife Christine, all of New Bedford, Luis Oliveira and his wife Adelaide and Joe Oliveira and his wife Connie, all of Assonet, and Octavio Oliveira of Freetown; her mother-in-law, Maria DosAnjos Peixoto Sebastiao of Azores, Portugal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the aunt of the late Amanda Oliveira and Christopher Oliveira and the sister-in-law of the late Joanne Oliveira.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 AM.
