Irene Evelyn (Prescott) Brodeur, 96, of New Bedford died December 27, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Arthur Brodeur, Sr., who passed away in 1983.
Born in Gloucester, the daughter of the late George A. and Margaret A. (Tobin) Prescott, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Following the passing of her son Richard in 1986 and Arthur in 1995, Mrs. Brodeur was lovingly attended to and cared for by her daughters-in-law, Joyce (Freitas) Brodeur and Miriam Brodeur. Her final years were spent at Hallmark Nursing Home in New Bedford.
Mrs. Brodeur was a gentle, loving woman, quick with a smile and had a personable way about her that made her well-liked by anyone who ever met her. She will be missed greatly and will be remembered fondly.
Survivors include 9 grandchildren, Brian Brodeur of Oregon, Michael Brodeur, James Brodeur, Daniel Carreiro, Gary Brodeur and Joyce Brodeur, all of New Bedford, Phillip Brodeur of Brockton, Shannon Cartledge of Kissimmee, Fla., and Jodie Medeiros of Rochester; 14 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Arthur S. Brodeur, Jr. and Richard A. Brodeur, and the sister of the late Vina Comeau, Grace (Prescott) Comeau, Ella Comeau, Howard Prescott and Everett Prescott.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Friday, December 30th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Thursday, December 29th from 4-7 PM.
Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
