Obituary

Baylies, Winthrop Allen age 88, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on February 18, 2019. Winthrop was born on November 1, 1930 to Walter Ray Baylies and Elizabeth Allen Baylies.

Beloved and devoted husband of 64 years of Mary Jane (Glennon) Baylies, and loving father of his children Elizabeth Allen Baylies and her husband Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns, Ellen Saunders Baylies (pre-deceased), Polly Upham Baylies and her partner Benjamin Millard, and Winthrop Cabot Baylies and his wife Dr. Mary K. Baylies. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sarah Burns (and Brian Corbin), Elizabeth Burns, Caroline Burns, Eric Scherfling, Nell Scherfling, Hannah Baylies and Benjamin Baylies; and by two great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Max Corbin. He was pre-deceased by his sister Natalie Elizabeth Baylies Rosner.

A Mayflower descendant, Winthrop graduated from Milton Academy and Harvard College (’52), where he was a member of the swimming team, and the Hasty Pudding and Spee Clubs. He was an officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Win had a successful career in the semiconductor industry as President of the consulting firm BayTech Group. He was active as a lector, lay Eucharistic Minister and in stewardship at St. Julia Parish in Weston.

A longtime resident of Marion, Weston and Lincoln Massachusetts, Winthrop was a member of the Harvard Club and the Weston Golf Club.

Win was an enthusiastic and lifelong athlete, from golf and tennis to skiing and scuba. A lover of music of all sorts, but especially opera, Win was the family flautist and poet at family gatherings. Later in life he avidly embraced the role of family genealogist.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 AM at St. Julia Parish in Weston.
