Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Walker English Myers, 87, of Tifton passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Legacy Village in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Myers will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 21, 2019, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Born January 13, 1932 in Fitzgerald, Mrs. Myers was the daughter of the late George C. Walker and Etta Bernice Brown Walker, She was also preceded in death by two husbands; Kenneth L. English and Bob Myers; four brothers and three sisters, Alver, George Jr., Julius, Melvin, Marian, Lois and Myrtle.

Mrs. Myers was a retired school teacher and counselor. She graduated from Tift College in Forsyth in 1979, Valdosta State University in 1984 (Master’s in Behavior Disorders) and the University of Montevallo in Alabama in 1994 (Master’s in Counseling).

Mrs. Myers taught students with behavior disorders K-12 for 16 years. She was also a counselor K-12 for four years, a family coach and hospice volunteer.

Mrs. Myers enjoyed being a mother, teacher and counselor. She also enjoyed working in her yard, decorating her house, sewing, exercising, reading, traveling, playing cards with friends and visiting her grandchildren.

Mrs. Myers was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tifton, where she was an active member of her Sunday School Class (Raley Sunday School Class) and the Joyful Sound Senior Choir.

Mrs. Myers is survived by four daughters, Joy English Hubbard of New Jersey, Melanie English Moore (Jimmy) of Sylacauga, Alabama, Betsy English Brown Haman (Darrell) of Ty Ty and Marian English of Vermont; seven grandchildren, Adam Moore (Brooke), Emily Moore McKinnon (Bryan), Caroline Hubbard Milby (Andrew), Lex Hubbard (Sarah), Austin Brown, Allison Brown Thompson (Justin) and Donna Haman; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, South GA Regional Office, 225 East Second Street, Tifton, GA 31794.
