Obituary

Dale Allen Churchill, 82, passed away peacefully after a long illness on February 6, 2019 at Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Northbridge, MA surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Florence (Stevens) Churchill. Dale was born in Caribou, Maine on December 26, 1936 to the late John Allen Churchill and Helen (Bailey) Zalegowski.
Dale’s school years were split between Houlton and Calais, Maine, he graduated from Calais Memorial High School in 1954. After high school Dale enlisted in the Maine National Guard and US Navy and served during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. After serving his country he worked for Pratt Whitney, Sears and Pressure Blast in CT, and for V.L. Tammaro Oil Company, Georgia Pacific and Domtar Paper in ME.
Dale was a member of the IAM Machinist Union 1490, American Legion – St Croix Club and My Friends Place in Bangor, ME in his later years. He donated his sheet metal skills to make and install the duct work for Alexander Grange #304POH for their heating system and made a drop off container for books for the Calais Public Library.
Dale’s interests included hunting, fishing, fly tying, bowling, cribbage, bridge, pinochle, any card game and he was an avid reader. He always had a book ready to read.
In addition to his wife, Dale is survived by his siblings, Jan Taylor of Fl, Chris Wojcik of TX, John Churchill (Jane) of ME, Kim Dunston (Sam) of Maryland, and Laurie Churchill (Kris) of ME. His blended family of children, Karen Conway, Cindy Postemski (Danny Sr), Beth Arvidson of CT, Steven Haskins of CA and Frank Haskins (Keila) of MA. His 10 grandchildren, Deardra Postemski, Matthew Conway (Alina), Christopher Conway, Heather Breton, Danny Postemski Jr. (Kelli), Kevin Conway, Keisha Haskins, Trevor Arvidson, Robbert Haskins and Erica Arvidson, who have fond memories of spending time at Pleasant Lake at the camp swimming, fishing and playing cards into the night with grandpa. His 9 great grandchildren Tanner, Brendan, Brett, Bradley, Blake, Joshua, Sean, Nadia and Laurel whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Carole Yungk (Rory) of CT.
The family would like to thank My Friends Place in Bangor, ME for giving Dale purpose and many happy days/times while he attended their program. Loving Touch In Home Care caregivers in Bangor, ME for their daily care for Dale and support to Florence and to Dale’s nurses/caregivers at Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehab for their care and support to both Dale and the family during the last 6 months.
Dale will be buried in Princeton, ME at his family burial plot. Burial and Celebration of Dale’s life will be announced/scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calais Maine Public Library, to the local library of your choice or to My Friends Place in Bangor, ME.
